This template produces a non-combining spiritus asper, Unicode character U+0314. The character is used in the Wade–Giles system of romanization for Mandarin Chinese. The template is used to avoid confusion with apostrophe, straight quote marks, and similar punctuation and letters in various languages, such as the okina.
