Description
English: Side view of engine and gearwheel layout of SS Great Britain, showing arrangement of large gearwheel on the crankshaft between the two engines (nearmost cylinders displayed) and the smaller gearwheel below operated by chains from the larger. The engine cylinders D D drive the connecting rods U U which turn the crank eccentrics R R which turn the crankshaft Q Q Q which turns the large gear or driving wheel S which by means of the installed chains turns the smaller propeller shaft gearwheel T.
