Category:Baronies of Fingal
- Propose renaming Category:Baronies of Fingal to Category:Baronies in Fingal
Nominator's rationale: They are not really "of" Fingal since the baronies were created prior to the creation of Fingal as as county. Rather they are baronies that are located within the bounds of the county (either wholly or partially). For almost every other county of Ireland, a county was sub-divided into a specific number of baronies that were formerly used for local administration. - There's no need for the category at all. Baronies were subdivisions of the traditional counties like County Dublin. The administrative county of Fingal was created in 1994 without regard for the earlier baronies, as many of them straddle Fingal's boundary. ~Asarlaí 15:11, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- Reply As a county of Ireland, Fingal has as much validity for a first-level country sub-division as does County Dublin or County Cork. As the nomination states, the scope is appropriate to things in the county rather than things that are or were intrinsic (of) to the county. But Asarlai & I have rehearsed these arguments many times. - Comment -- as I am not Irish, I am reluctant to vote, but the whole category seems anachronistic. However, I wonder whether we should not merge back to Category:Baronies in County Dublin on the basis that baronies became defunct administrative entities long before the present County Fingal was created in 1994.
