Remarkably, its content is edited and maintained entirely by volunteers from around the world. Hosted by a non-profit that is funded by donations, Wikipedia is shared with around 500,000,000 people every month. The international conference for users of Wikipedia - called Wikimania - has been organized in a different city every year since 2005 to present and discuss topics related to free knowledge, free culture, and open-source software. Wikipedia is part of a social movement that values transparency, collaboration, and the free and open sharing of knowledge. |
