Wadley is a city in Jefferson County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,643 in 2020.
History
[edit | edit source]The community was named for William Morill Wadley, a railroad official.[4]
The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Wadley as a town in 1876.[5] It was incorporated as a city in 1970.[6]
Geography
[edit | edit source]Wadley is located at 32°52′14″N 82°24′14″W / 32.87056°N 82.40389°W (32.870491, -82.403756).[7]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.6 square miles (12 km2), of which 4.6 square miles (12 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (1.09%) is water.
Demographics

[edit | edit source]As of the 2020 census, Wadley had a population of 1,643. The median age was 47.0 years. 20.1% of residents were under the age of 18 and 24.2% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 78.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 75.8 males age 18 and over.[8][9]
0.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas.[10]
There were 675 households in Wadley, of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 26.8% were married-couple households, 17.2% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 49.6% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 35.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 381 families residing in the city.[8]
There were 809 housing units, of which 16.6% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.2% and the rental vacancy rate was 2.8%.[8][9][10]
