Consensus is Wikipedia's fundamental model for editorial decision-making: when it doesn't work, nothing else does either.

In situations involving consensus:
DO:
File:Green check.png Be familiar with relevant policies, guidelines, and past discussions
File:Green check.png Follow the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle
File:Green check.png Challenge consensus at the right venue(s)
File:Green check.png Neutrally ask for more opinions when needed
File:Green check.png Take intractable disputes to the right dispute resolution process
DON'T:
File:Red x.svg Don't pretend a consensus you disagree with doesn't exist!
File:Red x.svg Don't use local consensus to ignore wider consensus
File:Red x.svg Don't close contentious discussions that you participated in
File:Red x.svg Don't canvass for support of your position
File:Red x.svg Don't use tendentious editing to get your way
